Robotic Hands Stem Project
Description of Cricut Lesson & Activity
This fun STEM activity will help guide students to create a “robotic” hand for students to learn about pulleys and joints. They can play a game of rock, paper, scissors after they have created the robotic hand!

Learning Objective(s)
-
Students will be able to explain how pulleys and joints work together to create movement in a robotic hand.
Materials Required
-
Kraftboard
- Optional: Cardboard
Other tools and materials:
- Black Pen
- Scoring Tool
- Glue
- String
- Straws
Instructions
-
Start by inserting the Kraftboard into your machine to cut and draw the design onto the Kraftboard.
-
Fold along the core lines and cut pieces of the straw to fit into the finger joint spaces.
-
Glue the straw pieces onto the hand.
-
Thread the string through the straw pieces and glue to the fingertips. Create loops in the ends of the strings for finger loops.
-
Optional, use heavy cardboard pieces to strengthen the hand cutouts and create a handle to hold on to.
Assessment
-
Students will demonstrate mastery by designing and building a simple robotic hand using pulleys and joints, followed by a short presentation explaining their design choices and the physics behind the movement.
